FONG NEW CEO OF CA GROCERS ASSOC. 03/19/2008
Ron Fong, the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ vice president of state government affairs, will take a new position as president and CEO of the California Grocers Association, beginning March 31. His final day with the Leagues is March 28. Continue for complete news release
   
LEAGUES UNVEIL REDESIGNED WEBSITE 03/18/2008
The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues on March 17 unveiled a redesigned public and members-only website that makes it easier to find information about the League, its member credit unions, and affiliates. The new public site features streamlined information and links while the members-only site presents all pertinent information in one place. The site was last redesigned in 2005. 2008 PURCELL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT 03/04/2008
Allen Chew is the recipient of the second Kelly J. Purcell Credit Union Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ former director of federal government affairs. Chew is a graduate student at The George Washington University Graduate School for Political Management, where Purcell received her master’s degree. Continue for complete news release
   
YOUNG PEOPLE AND FINANCES 02/28/2008
Recent surveys indicate that many American youth are not as financially aware as they could be. To find out just how much young people know about the topic, representatives from American First Credit Union in Las Habra, CA went to straight to the “horse’s mouth,” so to speak, hosting a “Teen Rap Session” at St. Cecilia School in Tustin on February 26. AUTOLAND INC. EXTENDS REACH 02/05/2008

CU AID HANDS OUT 1ST FIRE GRANTS 01/31/2008
While the devastating wildfires that scorched Southern California were still burning last fall, credit union employees, volunteers and members opened their pocketbooks to raise nearly $220,000 to help credit union members who might be affected. This month, the first three grants from CU Aid—the centralized disaster relief fund-raising system activated during the fires by the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) and the California Credit Union League—were completed in the San Diego area, one of the hardest hit by the disaster. CA LAWMAKER WINS CUNA AWARD 01/28/2008
California Assemblyman Ted Lieu’s tireless pursuit of improving youth financial literacy has led him to be named the 2007 National Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award for state lawmakers. The California Credit Union League—the Rancho Cucamonga, CA-based trade association for credit unions in California and Nevada—nominated Assemblyman Lieu for the award.
