A 'Very Important' Honor, Rooney Says
This year’s Kelly J. Purcell Credit Union Memorial Fund Scholarship was awarded to Ashley Rooney, a student at the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) who is slated to graduate in 2016 with a master’s degree in political management.

During the Credit Union National Association’s 2014 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, D.C. last week, Rooney addressed a group of California and Nevada credit union leaders, expressing what she feels is her call to public service, as well as a passion for the political process.

She was honored and humbled to receive the scholarship in memory of Purcell—one that will help her in this journey.

“This scholarship is very important,” she said. “It will help me make a difference like Kelly Purcell did.”

The Kelly J. Purcell Credit Union Memorial Fund was endowed in 2007 in memory of Kelly Purcell, a GSPM graduate (class of 2000) and California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues employee who tragically passed away in 2006. The fund was created by gifts from the Leagues and its member credit unions.

This year the Leagues created a video in her memory. (C-Sun Studios was honored to be a part of this project)
