Participating CUs Donated From Check Card or Credit Card Transactions on International Credit Union Day
October 29, 2013

Several California and Nevada credit unions celebrated this year’s International Credit Union Day (October 17) by helping CU4Kids create miracles. They donated a total of $174,538 to Credit Unions for Kids, the nationwide alliance of credit unions supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Funds will benefit local hospitals belonging to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Each time members used their check card or credit card on October 17, the participating credit unions donated 25 cents or any self-determined amount to Credit Unions for Kids.

“Kids who need the most care will now be able to receive it thanks to the generosity of these credit unions, and their members,” said Leagues President and CEO Diana Dykstra.

The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues—with support from Rancho Cucamonga, CA-based CO-OP Financial Services—encouraged credit unions to participate in this year’s event. The statewide initiative was an outgrowth of a 2012 program launched by four California credit unions—California Credit Union in Glendale; Xceed Financial Federal Credit Union in El Segundo; SkyOne Federal Credit Union in Hawthorne; and Wescom Credit Union in Pasadena.

Some of the participating credit unions were eligible for a CO-OP Miracle Match from CO-OP Financial Services. CO-OP provided $23,427 in matching funds. Launched in 2008, CO-OP Miracle Match is a $1-million philanthropic matching program that encourages credit unions, chapters and leagues to create and participate in local CMNH fundraisers.

In addition to California CU, Xceed Financial, SkyOne FCU, and Wescom, other credit unions participating in the 2013 event included Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union in La Canada-Flintridge, Clark County Credit Union in Las Vegas, Community First Credit Union in Santa Rosa, Eagle Community Credit Union in Lake Forest, Farmers Insurance Group Federal Credit Union in Los Angeles, Financial Partners Credit Union in Downey, First City Credit Union in Los Angeles, Health Associates Federal Credit Union in Orange, LBS Financial Credit Union in Long Beach, Kinecta Federal Credit Union in Manhattan Beach; McKesson Employees’ Federal Credit Union in San Francisco, Orange County’s Credit Union in Santa Ana, Pacific Service Credit Union in Walnut Creek, Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, San Mateo Credit Union in Redwood City, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union in Santa Ana, and Southern California Postal Credit Union in Long Beach.
