LEAGUES GIVE TAX CAMPAIGN UPDATE
updated 06/11/13 10:53 AM
All CUs Urged to Participate
The fight to retain the credit union movement's tax-exempt status is now in full swing, with Harbor FCU becoming the first California credit union to ask its members to visit the Connect For The Cause website and contact congressional legislators.
"Directly engaging members is the only way to achieve our goal of sending a minimum of 500,000 letters to Congress from California and Nevada," said David Creager, manager of grassroots advocacy for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues.
The Latest Numbers
Reach Out to Your Members
If your credit union has not yet determined a date to participate, please choose at least one date from June 11, 18, and 25, or July 9 and 16 to contact your members.
Once you have selected a date, please notify Leagues Manager of Grassroots Advocacy David Creager by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org so the Leagues can track your credit union's success.
Toolkit and Materials
In addition, many credit unions have started educating both staff and members by using the resources provided by the Leagues. A successful campaign includes placing a banner on your website, as well as making CUNA’s educational video available on your branch televisions.
Some credit unions are even placing computers in their branches to make it easier for members to send letters to Congress through Connect For The Cause.
