Nearly 90 credit union professionals attended the Second Annual "Dancing With the Credit Union Stars" at the California Credit Union League's Tri-County Chapter meeting on Aug. 22—an event raising more than $5,000 for the League's Political Action Committee (PAC).

The fundraiser—which included networking, dinner, and dessert—is modeled after the "Dancing With the Stars" TV show, with judges robed in costume, "in character," and quipping eloquently and humorously as they rated dancers on the floor. The judges included Diana Dykstra, president and CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues; Jon Hernandez, CEO of CalCom FCU; and Gregg Stockdale, CEO of 1st Valley CU.

Dance contestants got the chance show off their moves, with professional "stars" helping lead the way. The contestants included Jennifer Bathurst, computer operations manager for Arrowhead CU, and winner of this year's event for raising the most money; Annice Kim, CEO of L.A. Healthcare FCU; Anthony Nowak, senior branch manager for Wescom CU; and Lyle Sandlin, president of Wescom Insurance Services.

Dancing "stars" included Sossy Hyatt, marketing director for 1st Valley CU, and Tom Hyatt, both of whom were paired with contestants. The Hyatts have been dancing together professionally for more than 10 years and are two-time Country Western World Champions and U.S. Open West Coast Swing Finalists.

The audience voted with their dollars on who they felt performed the best. Additionally, a silent auction was held to bring in more funds for the cause, as well as event sponsorship.

Sponsors included Wescom CU, Vantiv, CUonline Solutions, CUNA Mutual Group, and Samaha and Associates.

The event was organized by the Tri-County Chapter Board of Governors and held at Sierra Lakes Golf Club in Fontana, CA.

All contributions will be attributed to the CCUL-PAC (Independent Expenditure Account). Contributions are not tax-deductible for state or federal tax purposes.
