Representative Visits League Office
Rep. Gloria Negrete-McLeod, D-CA, visited the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues' headquarters during the final week of the August congressional recess.

McLeod is one of the newest members of Congress being sworn into office at the beginning of this year. She is, however, no stranger to credit unions, as she is a long-time supporter of credit union issues based on her previous career in the California state legislature.

Representatives from multiple credit unions joined Leagues President and CEO Diana Dykstra and Vice President of Federal Government Affairs Jeremy Empol to discuss several issues pertaining to the credit union congressional agenda. At the top of that list was preservation of the credit union tax exemption.

"As our member credit unions have reached out to their members, the League continues to engage our congressional delegation and build support for our agenda," Empol said.

Negrete-McLeod has been a good friend of credit unions. She is a co-sponsor of H.R. 688, legislation that would raise the member business lending cap.

Her visit to the Leagues came before an important "Hike the Hill" event in Washington D.C. this week, where credit unions representatives are meeting with the remaining congressional delegation. Stay tuned—the Leagues will have more to report on this next week.
