Congressional Freshman Send Letter
Eleven of 14 California freshman members of Congress have sent a letter to the California congressional leadership and the House Ways and Means Committee in support of credit unions' federal tax exemption.
Led by Reps. Jared Huffman, D-CA, and Colonel Paul Cook, R-CA, the letter praises the role credit unions provide to communities and justifies the credit union tax status.
"This is another example of how the California congressional delegation continues to show their strong support for credit unions," said Jeremy Empol, vice president of federal government affairs for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. "Support letters such as these help defend the credit union movement's tax status."
The House Ways and Means Committee, as well as the Senate Finance Committee, have been working on reforming the U.S. tax code.
"We continue to work diligently on your behalf, and we thank you, our members, for your continued support in this vital endeavor," Empol said.
