Patent Troll Legislation Supported
The San Francisco Chronicle’s editorial board recently endorsed the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ position on legislation addressing so-called “patent trolls,” which have become a growing problem in the credit union industry.

Citing a recent interview with Leagues President and CEO Diana Dykstra, the Chronicle acknowledged credit unions as the unlikely victims of these types of frivolous lawsuits.

The Leagues have taken an aggressive stand for the credit union movement and have been actively working with Congress to reform the process under which patent lawsuits are filed.

"California Senator Dianne Feinstein, the No. 2 democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has been incredibly helpful in our efforts—a true, honest broker for those seeking legislation to fix this problem," said Jeremy Empol, vice president of federal government affairs for the Leagues.

He added: "As the bill is set for a mark-up in the days ahead, credit unions are well positioned. The support from the San Francisco Chronicle is extremely helpful, especially as this legislation has large impacts on the technology sector, in addition to banking.”
