HELP SUPPORT FINANCIAL EDUCATION
NCUF Campaign Will Benefit RMJ
Want to easily help raise awareness of credit unions’ financial education activities as well as support programs such as the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation’s Bite of Reality program? Want to help make a difference in the financial lives of your staff and possibly members?
Here is your chance.
The RMJ Foundation—the state foundation for credit unions in California and Nevada—has been working with the National Credit Union Foundation on a fundraising and awareness campaign entitled “Credit Unions Support Financial Education: Leading the Way to Financial Freedom.” The campaign takes place this coming April, National Financial Literacy Month, where credit union staff and members will be encouraged to raise awareness and funds for financial education.
The main focus of the campaign is to raise funds for national as well as statewide financial education initiatives, such as RMJ Foundation’s new Bite of Reality program which teaches young people the basics of finance in a fun, interactive way. Therefore, credit unions are encouraged to hold a “Financially Fit Day” on April 3, including fundraising among staff and members (most easily done as a casual or jeans day for staff). The idea is that there is one dedicated day for credit unions and their members to become “Financially Fit!” However, credit union staff are also highly encouraged to ask members to support financial education with a monetary contribution. Credit unions can become financially fit by participating in various FUNdraising activities on April 3 or throughout the month
Additionally, there is an opportunity for your staff and/or members to “pledge their support” for financial education. The pledge will be answering a simple question such as “I pledge to support financial education by _____” with a variety of options. The downloadable pdf is for your staff and/or members to be completed at your credit union branch. Staff and members can also take their pledge online and then share with friends via social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
All donations from credit unions for this campaign will be split 50/50 between NCUF and the RMJ Foundation in support of their financial education initiatives to help consumers of all ages achieve financial freedom.
