Kinecta and Nix held a month-long collection campaign collecting nearly 600 backpacks filled with school supplies with additional backpacks donated by the Richstone Family Center, Thomas House Family Shelter, and other schools and community organizations.
Over the past several weeks, the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues have stressed that EVERY credit union, both small and large, can play a vital role in defending the movement's tax-exempt status by implementing a few simple steps from the Don't Tax My Credit Union campaign. At the very least, credit unions can promote Connect For The Cause to engage members, a simple online tool allowing them to instantly raise their voice within seconds.
"Whether you have hundreds of members or tens of thousands of members, your involvement is absolutely vital," said David Creager, manager of grassroots advocacy for the Leagues. "Our worst-case scenario would be waking up one day to witness Congress taking action to tax credit unions, and realizing that some credit unions could have—and should have—made a difference with their members of Congress."
Those 80,000 member contacts to Congress from California and Nevada are part of 300,000 across the country in the national Don't Tax My Credit Union campaign that the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and state leagues are promoting.
The following are House congressional district seats receiving the lowest volume of letters from California and Nevada credit unions:
"We can't afford to waste this pivotal opportunity to build our political strength," Creager said. "Only by growing our profile and gathering more access and influence on Capitol Hill can we permanently guarantee that credit unions will remain safe."
