Thought-Provoking Insight Delivered
Credit union chapter members from across California and Nevada gathered Oct. 27 at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco to attend the 2013 Chapter Forum, which offered a full day of valuable networking and educational sessions for attendees who were eager to share individual stories about the work their chapters are accomplishing.

The day's events also offered strategies for recognizing whether a chapter under the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues is heading into irrelevancy, and what leaders can do to reverse this trend.

Mark Arnold, president of On The Mark Strategies, shared how credit union chapters need to evaluate their relevancy, and how to re-engage those in the industry. "If you chapter doesn't have a clear vision about what you're trying to accomplish, you will become a mediocre chapter," Arnold said. He said chapters need to have a "clear vision," as well as one that's unique and consistent.

Besides participating in breakout discussions and activities, attendees also heard from John Tippets, former CEO of North Island CU and American Airlines FCU. Tippets shared how credit unions should reinforce their principles through practical and generous ideals, courage, hard work, and good character. Overall, credit union leaders should "love what you do, love the people you do it with, and love the people you do it for," he said. "Love has great application in the credit union world."
