The San Diego-Imperial Chapter of the California Credit Union League hosted its second annual “Credit Union and Friends Got Talent” show on July 31 at the San Diego Women’s Center. The talent was excellent and included vocalists, back-up vocals and dancers, duets, and solos with instruments from several local credit unions and Friends of the Chapter. Each act had the crowd of more than 100 fans clapping and singing along.

Approximately 50 LBS Financial CU employees, friends, and family participated in at least one of the credit union’s beach-clean-ups in 2012. The credit union participates in the City of Long Beach’s Adopt-a-Beach program, committed to cleaning up their selected beach at least three times per year, and finished its final beach clean-up of 2012 on Saturday, July 21. LBS Financial CU was also voted the Best Credit Union in Long Beach by Press Telegram readers in their 2012 Reader’s Choice Awards. This is the second year that LBS Financial has been selected as “Best Credit Union” in the Press Telegram Reader’s Choice Awards and only the second year that the Press Telegram has featured a reader’s choice poll.

Altura CU affiliate company Auto Expert reported that through second quarter 2012, its total of vehicles sold is up 35 percent over the same period last year. In addition, revenue is up 38 percent year over year.

Redwood CU Community Relations and Marketing Specialist Matt McPherson was honored with the Employee Campaign Chair of the Year award from United Way of the Wine Country in recognition of the credit union’s 2011 workplace fundraising campaign. The combined contributions from Redwood CU, its employees, and officials totaled more than $86,000, exceeding the company’s goal and its 2010 campaign. Also, the credit union continued their sponsorship of the Sidewalk Procession at this year's Sonoma County Fair. An estimated 400 kids and kids-at-heart from throughout Sonoma County joined the Sidewalk Procession—led by Redwood CU mascot "Reddy the Redwood" and a Dixieland band—from the downtown farmers’ market to the fairgrounds on Wednesday, July 25. Additionally, RCU Services Group—the wholly-owned subsidiary and CUSO of Redwood CU—has named Lisa Wittke Schaffner as a board member for a one-year term.

The Golden 1 CU announced that its person-to-person payment service has been upgraded to the national Popmoney system. The service, which was formerly known as EZPaySM, allows Golden 1 members to send and receive money to and from individuals using a mobile phone number, email address, or account information.

San Francisco FCU participated in the 26th Annual AIDS Walk San Francisco on July 15. Five San Francisco FCU employees walked 10 kilometers through Golden Gate Park. As a team, the credit union raised over $1,000 through donations and an employee ice cream social and San Francisco Giants’ ticket raffle. Also, the credit union is launching a new, free product for its members: a personal financial management tool called “The Big Picture.” Set to release on August 21, “The Big Picture” will be available on San Francisco FCU’s online banking system. Additionally, the credit union has awarded four $2,000 scholarships to youth members who will be going on to college next year, based on academic achievement, personal integrity, and active participation at their schools and local communities.

CO-OP Financial Services recorded rapid growth for CO-OP Shared Branching during the first six months of 2012, following the merger of CO-OP and FSCC, Inc. effective at the first of the year. Also, Caroline Willard has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Markets and Strategy, at CO-OP Financial Services, reporting to president and CEO Stan Hollen. Additionally, CO-OP is introducing CO-OP Network PIN POS service powered by First Data, enabling debit cardholders of participating credit unions access to nearly two million STAR Network point-of-sale locations around the country.

Kinecta FCU has been named “Best Credit Union” by the local publication The Daily Breeze in its 21st Annual Readers Poll. This marks the second year in a row that Kinecta has earned this award. Among the thousands of votes cast, Kinecta garnered the highest number among a total of five credit unions that were nominated.
