IS YOUR CU PREPARED FOR ATM CHANGES?

Diebold Offers Guidance
Over the next few years, credit unions can expect supplier support changes, and new compliance and technology upgrade requirements to most ATMs, necessitating the need to upgrade self-service equipment and reevaluate future deployment strategies.

To help credit unions ensure their readiness for these changes, Diebold, Inc.'s Operation 411 provides vital information on impending changes, important dates, and upgrades and implementation of new technologies. Operation 411 pinpoints four crucial items credit unions need to address:

  • Most ATMs currently run on a Microsoft® Windows XP operating system. On April 8, 2014, Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP according to its lifecycle policy, and will shift to Windows 7 instead. As a result, operating system upgrades need to be made to all ATMs to ensure all terminals remain PCI compliant.
  • There will be a Europay, MasterCard® and Visa® (EMV) smart chip card liability shift regarding U.S. adoption occurring in October 2015. The distinguishing feature of EMV is that the consumer payment application is in a smart ship or in a personal device such as a mobile phone. The chip contains the information needed to use the card for payment. It can also facilitate robust authentication, which can significantly reduce fraud rates at the point of sale or ATM.
  • Encrypting PIN Pads have been required on ATMs to maintain the security of a terminal user's PIN, but have evolved over time to provide increasingly complex security. In order to meet impending future PCI 3.0 guidelines, ATMs installed or moved after April 2014 will need the new Encrypting PIN Pad Version 7 (EPP7) ,which will be released for network certification in mid-2013.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act compliance mandates. Make appropriate adjustments to meet 2010 standards.
