UPDATE ON KAYLEE
![]() |
|
When we met Kaylee last year, we learned a bout of high fevers led her to be rushed to the Sam S. and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, where her parents received the terrible news that their daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She was immediately sent to the Hematology/Oncology floor for treatment.
Today, Kaylee is age 5 and completed her treatment in March 2018. She is happy to be returning to all the things she loved before cancer, including gymnastics; spaghetti and meatballs (her favorite food); and being a “mommy” to her dolls and playing with her Barbies. Her hero is her big brother, Drew. FUN FACT: When she grows up, she wants to work with her mommy as a nurse in the Hematology/Oncology inpatient unit at Rady Children’s
MEET JAZZ
![]() |
|
Jazz is a vibrant young girl with a bright future. She also battles sickle cell disease, which leaves her vulnerable to excruciating pain and threatens to shorten her young life. Jazz and her family chose UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals for the compassionate care, wraparound services, and ground-breaking research opportunities. There, they have met with physician scientists who believe a cure will be discovered within her lifetime.

Runners and non-runners alike can help raise money for your local CMN Hospital! It’s simple!
- Click here to set up or join a Fundraising Team
- DONATE to the event or SPONSOR a Runner
- SPREAD the word on your personal Facebook page, Twitter, LinkedIn or via email
Last year, together we raised nearly $35,000 through these individual pages. Can we top that this year? All funds go directly to your local hospital.
SPOTLIGHT ON CU TEAMS—OE FCU AND PATELCO CU!
OE Federal Credit Union
![]() |
|
OE FCU had quite the crowd for the 2018 Credit Union SacTown Run: 23 employees, 25 family members, and an additional 12 spectators. This year, the credit union is hoping for an even larger turnout—70 people!

|
“We’re working on getting a team of participants together for the 10-mile, specifically,” said Marketing Manager Jessica Gunston-Parks. “We’ve got a training schedule put together and training starts this week (editor’s note: the week of Feb. 4)”
The credit union also has set up a fundraising page on its internal website to raise money for CMN.
Patelco Credit Union
![]() |
|
At the 2018 Credit Union SacTown Run, Patelco CU had a record number of participants bringing a team of 64 to Sacramento. This year, Patelco hopes to have as many people at the Run as OE FCU: 70 participants to break its previous year’s record.
The credit union was going to actively recruit team members by sending out a communication to officially announce the race and encourage people to register. It also planned to host a “sign-up day” to catch stragglers who had not signed up by the middle of February.
“Each of our participants will receive a custom designed T-Shirt for the race,” said Executive Director, Credit Union Affairs Flora Nafei. “We will also start a Team Training Challenge via Incentfit as well as having a running workshop to educate our runners on how to get ready and be better prepared for the race. We will be sending weekly reminders and encouragements to the Challenge’s participants.”

The credit union also plans activities, including a sponsorship/fundraising page and getting members more involved. Its fundraising goal is $10,000.
Good luck to OE FCU and Patelco on meeting or surpassing their 2019 goals! We will see you all on April 7!
California and Nevada credit unions—and business sponsors, we’d love to spotlight your teams too! Please send information and photos to League Media Relations Specialist Tina Ramos-Ingold at tinar@ccul.org.
