On April 8, President Donald Trump designated Rodney Hood as the 11th chairman of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board. In addition, the honorable Todd Harper also took the oath of office and joined the NCUA Board.

NCUA Board Member J. "Mark" McWatters delivered the oath of office to both Hood and Harper at the agency’s Alexandria, VA headquarters.

Upon being sworn in, Hood, a Republican, remarked: “As chairman, I look forward to enhancing and modernizing the federal credit union charter, addressing the issues of capital reform and cyber security, creating opportunities for credit unions to serve vulnerable communities, and reducing regulatory burdens.”

Harper, a Democrat, commented: “My priorities will be to safeguard the safety and soundness of federally insured credit unions, preserve the integrity of the credit union industry in a continually evolving and increasingly complex marketplace, and protect taxpayers and credit union members from losses to the share insurance fund.” He also said he is “deeply committed to increasing access to financial services for all.”

The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues are pleased to have a full three-person board seated. "We look forward to continuing to work with board member McWatters and establishing equally effective and strong working relationships with chairman Hood and board member Harper," said Diana Dykstra, president and CEO of the Leagues.

Dykstra added: "The Leagues also want to thank Rick Metsger for his extraordinary service on the NCUA Board, both as a board member and as the board chairman. His commitment and cooperation in improving the regulatory environment under which credit unions must operate while still protecting the share insurance fund was commendable."
