Foundation Fund: How Your CU can Help Quake Victims

Your credit union and its employees can help members who have been impacted by the recent earthquakes in the Ridgecrest, CA region by contributing to the Desert Valleys Employee Foundation, a nonprofit organization managed by Desert Valleys FCU.

The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues is reaching out to all credit unions in both states on behalf of those located in the the greater Ridgecrest vicinity. Two major earthquakes and hundreds of aftershocks have affected local residents, especially the communities of Trona, Lone Pine, Inyokern, California City, and Boron.

While everyone in the region is impacted, those suffering the most are credit union members, employees, and other residents living in modular and manufactured homes where foundations or building strength was compromised. Some families have no access to electricity, running water or natural gas and are camping in remote areas. First aid, food, water and other living/cooking resources are pouring in from local agencies and organizations.

However, in the spirit of credit unions, the Desert Valleys Employee Foundation is accepting donations from those in the credit union system who feel compelled to contribute during this devastating period. The funds will go directly to individuals and families who need help the most.

If you’d rather mail your donation, you can do so here:

Desert Valleys Employee Foundation
Attn: Quake Relief
P.O. Box 367
Ridgecrest, CA 93556

Any financial assistance that you or your credit union can provide the Desert Valleys foundation would be appreciated by the Leagues and local members who are living through this tragedy. The Leagues will continue to keep credit unions aware of updates on the situation.
