CUs Hold 'Juntos Avanzamos' Ceremonies as it Reaches Milestone

Representatives from Pasadena Service FCU, Inclusiv, and the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues celebrate the credit union's officially becoming a Juntos Avanzamos-designated organization on Sept. 20.

Last week Inclusiv (formerly the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions) announced the Juntos Avanzamos (“Together We Advance”) network had reached a milestone 100 credit unions. During the same week, Premier America CU, Pasadena Service FCU, and Tucoemas FCU—celebrated officially becoming Juntos Avanzamos-designated organizations.

This new milestone was announced at Inclusiv’s 2019 Annual Conference in Los Angeles. The total network’s reach now extends to more than 7 million consumers. In California, there are 13 credit unions with this special designation representing more than $12 billion in assets and serving more than 900,000 members through more than 130 branches.

The Juntos Avanzamos proclamation is a public ceremony intended to convey the message that the credit union is “open for business” and ready to serve and meet the needs of the Hispanic and Immigrant communities.  At their ceremonies, representatives from Pasadena Service FCU and Premier America CU talked of affordable financial services they offer as well as their outreach and education programs for members of the Hispanic and immigrant communities. Like other Juntos Avanzamos credit unions, they each employ bilingual, culturally competent staff and leadership, and accept alternative forms of identification.

Staffers from credit unions from the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico attended the Premier America ceremony, which also featured a testimonial from member MaryLou Sandoval.

"We are thrilled with the growth of the Juntos Avanzamos program,” said California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues Senior Vice President of Member Solutions Larry Palochik. “The Leagues were one of the first to officially support its national expansion. California now has the second largest concentration of Juntos Avanzamos credit unions in the country. It is a great framework for helping credit unions meet the needs of Hispanics in their communities and become the financial institution of choice for this incredibly important demographic. We commend Inclusiv for all its work with this program and encourage credit unions to apply for the designation.”

“Juntos Avanzamos has become the financial inclusion standard for Hispanics and immigrants within the credit union industry,” said Inclusiv SVP of Membership and Network Engagement Pablo DeFilippi. “Its system-wide adoption has opened the doors of financial opportunity for millions of underserved consumers across the United States, regardless of nationality or immigration status. Inclusiv is proud of this historic achievement, which is the result of the collective support of a coalition of league and industry partners committed to financial inclusion and to serving an increasingly diverse nation. We look forward to continue to champion inclusion throughout the industry and beyond.”

Besides the recent three, the other Juntos Avanzamos credit unions in California are: allUS CU (Salinas, CA); Downey FCU (Downey, CA); Strata CU (Bakersfield, CA); Kinecta FCU (Manhattan Beach, CA); Community First CU (Santa Rosa, CA); SCE FCU (Irwindale, CA; and also has a Juntos Avanzamos presence in Nevada); Santa Cruz Community CU (Santa Cruz, CA); Self-Help FCU (Oakland, CA); Travis CU (Vacaville, CA); and Ventura County CU (Ventura, CA).
