Numerous credit unions have partnered with state and federal elected officials through a variety of events and meetings in their districts. The following represent a few stellar highlights of recent credit union advocacy activity:

  • Financial Partners CU invited California State Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) to their credit union and had a terrific meeting. Garcia expressed her love for credit unions and participated in the “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” campaign by posing for a picture. Great work!

  • SchoolsFirst FCU held its second “Bite of Reality” financial simulation event with California State Senator Ling Ling Chang (R-Diamond Bar) just a few weeks ago in Anaheim. The League would like to thank the RMJ Foundation (Richard Myles Johnson Foundation) for its fantastic financial literacy program, as well as SchoolsFirst for its fantastic advocacy!

  • Kinecta FCU invited Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA-43) — chair of the House Financial Services Committee — to its annual food drive. Waters addressed more than 1,000 attendees and applauded Kinecta’s continued support in her district. Go team Kinecta!

  • Patelco CU attended several events in the community and gained valuable face-time with elected officials. To list a few: Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (D-CA-15) “Holiday Event”; Rep. Mark DeSaulnier’s (D-CA-11) “100th Town Hall”; and California State Assemblywoman Rebecca Bauer-Kahan’s (D-Orinda) “Town Hall and District Event.” Way to get out in front of these important legislators!

Major “kudos” go out to all credit unions for a strong year of advocacy. Let’s keep this momentum going as we kickstart 2020 and head into the next decade!
