Credit Unions in California Helping Those Impacted by Economic Fallout from Pandemic

CREDIT UNIONS IN CALIFORNIA HELPING THOSE IMPACTED BY ECONOMIC FALLOUT FROM PANDEMIC

The 294 credit unions in California—with total assets of nearly $210 billion and serving 14 million members—are working to help their members and communities through the crisis created by the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Credit unions in California—with our philosophy of ‘People Helping People’—are providing much-needed financial assistance to help alleviate the economic pain of households,” said Diana Dykstra, president and CEO of the California Credit Union League, the trade association for credit unions in the state.

To date, the League has heard from 86 of the 121 state-chartered credit unions as well as 101 of the 173 federally chartered credit unions in the state that they are committed to provide assistance.

Examples of individualized assistance from credit unions include:

  • Payment extensions
  • Fee waivers
  • Emergency loans
  • Mortgage forbearance
  • Deferments on commercial or business loans

For examples of how local credit unions are similarly serving their members, please contact Joe Keller, vice president of communications and marketing for the California Credit Union League, at (909) 212-6020.
