Neil Goldman: Don’t Play Price Game; Disrupt by Using ‘Enhancement’

Goldman Consulting and Strategy Inc. Senior Partner Neil Goldman capped off attendees’ experience at the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ annual REACH conference in Monterey, CA by discussing the SPECS model.

It is designed as a framework to fuel innovation, engagement and growth “beyond price” — resulting in the ultimate consumer experience. Consumer expectations continue to evolve, and credit unions must evolve to stay relevant. But how? The SPECS model — Speed, Personalization, Ease, Control, Security — comes from years of qualitative and quantitative consumer research to help drive and maintain relevance and distinction within the marketplace.

Erica Dhawan: ‘Connectional Intelligence’ can Unlock New Value for Members

In today’s era of disruption and change, credit unions’ most underleveraged asset could be the ability to fully harness intelligence within the organization. However, “connectional intelligence” can help credit unions “get big things done” according to Erica Dhawan, founder and CEO of Cotential and best-selling author.

“Sometimes making connections is harder than we think,” said Dhawan during the final general session on Wednesday morning at the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ annual REACH conference in Monterey, CA. “What can be a five-minute quick exchange is instead sometimes a fearful, stressful wind-up over a 12-hour period. We think we all have communication down pretty well, but we don’t.”

Louise Beaumont: Embracing ‘Open Banking’ with Member-Centric View

“Open banking” probably conjures different ideas in credit union leaders’ minds. In one sentence, it is consumers’ revenge on financial services, according to advisor and investor Louise Beaumont. And it’s not coming around the corner — it’s already here.

The Tuesday morning keynote speaker at the annual REACH conference in Monterey, CA discussed open banking, open data, and an open future all built around consumer trust, namely dominant codes of trust and emerging codes of trust.

Jim Nussle: Credit Unions Can Seize Unique Moment to ‘Tell Our Story’

Credit Union National Association (CUNA) President and CEO Jim Nussle told attendees at the REACH conference on Tuesday morning that U.S. credit unions are building momentum as they fill gaps within the financial services arena, as well as looking for opportunities to serve consumers and defend against attacks by banks.

“Big banks are stealing market share but not from us — they’re taking it from small banks,” Nussle said as he pointed to a decades-long chart of U.S. financial services market share broken out by consumer deposit percentages. “The big banks are killing the small banks. That means we’ve got to tell our credit union story. We don’t want to be next, for the sake of our members’ future. We’ve got to increase consideration among consumers.”
