GAC Grand Sweepstakes: CA and NV CU Advocates Raise $62K

During the Credit Union Legislative Action Council’s (CULAC) 2024 Governmental Affairs Conference Grand Sweepstakes, California and Nevada credit union leaders raised an astounding $62,145!

California advocates raised $55,400 and took first place in the sweepstakes for the sixth consecutive year. Altogether, 120 credit union leaders donated, raising 16 percent more than what they raised last year. Nicholas Ambrosini, CEO of Vally Strong CU, won the first trustee prize for raising the largest amount of money during the sweepstakes.

Nevada advocates also raised an incredible amount, bringing in $6,745 in five days (standing only $255 from their $7,000 goal).

During every GAC — the credit union industry’s annual national political advocacy event — the Grand Sweepstakes raises funds to support credit union-friendly lawmakers and candidates, boosting CULAC’s advocacy outreach over the long term.

Prizes are always part of the activities and fun. The 2024 winners from California and Nevada include:

  • Matthew Metzger, Redwood CU (Arizona prize) — Ninja air fryer.
  • Kelli Briggs, SESLOC FCU (Illinois prize) — CU Money.
  • Nikki Lougheed, Community 1st CU (Illinois prize) — CU Money.
  • Betty Percifield, Desert Valleys FCU (Kentucky prize) — Gift basket.
  • Flora Nafei, Patelco CU (New Mexico prize) — Apple Homepod Mini.
  • Raymond Wilson, Silver State Schools CU (Idaho prize) — Ninja air fryer.

“We would like to congratulate all of our prize winners and thank every donor for their outstanding support during this year’s GAC Grand Sweepstakes,” said Angelica Pappalardo, political advocacy manager for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. “Because of contributors like you, the credit union movement can continue advocating for its members every year in local districts and on Capitol Hill.”

The Leagues look forward to engaging you and your credit union on the advocacy fundraising front throughout 2024 as it supports credit union-friendly candidates at the state and federal levels.
