Meeting with State Lawmakers: Davies, Blakespear, & Bruce-Lane

The California Credit Union League’s Political Action Committee (PAC) efforts stayed busy in July as the league’s advocacy team and political professionals from local credit unions met with three credit union allies across the state: Assemblymember Laurie Davies (R-Laguna Niguel), Senator Catherine Blakespear (D-Encinitas), and Kristie Bruce-Lane (Republican candidate for Assembly District 76 — eastern San Diego County).

Assemblymember Laurie Davies
Davies, a longtime credit union member, joined local credit union leaders at Frontwave CU and spent the afternoon discussing California’s greatest challenges, as well as how credit unions can be part of the solution.

Topics discussed were the high cost of living, limited access to affordable housing, and the rise of consumer fraud. Despite these struggles, Davies expressed her appreciation of how credit unions have continuously put their members first and worked with them every step of the way.

Whether it’s modifying a credit union member’s loan or hosting a financial literacy or senior-scammer event, credit unions are working every day to help make a difference in the lives of their members — and Davies acknowledged that fact.

Senator Catherine Blakespear & Assembly Candidate Bruce-Lane
The following week, local credit union leaders gathered at North Island CU in Oceanside to meet with newly elected senator Blakespear, as well as assembly candidate Bruce-Lane.

Hot topics discussed were the importance of financial education and how credit unions can work together to empower the next generation in their journey to financial wellness. Local credit union leaders look forward to partnering with Blakespear and Bruce-Lane in these endeavors!

The league would like to thank Frontwave CU and North Island CU for hosting these events, as well as the following credit unions for their support and leadership in political advocacy: SchoolsFirst FCU, Wescom CU, Eagle Community CU, California CU, Mission Fed CU, Wheelhouse CU, San Diego County CU, California Coast CU, East County Schools CU, First Tech FCU, and Financial Partners CU.
