California State Assemblymember Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) has been sworn in as the 71st speaker of the assembly.
Rivas was escorted by past speakers and flanked by Gov. Gavin Newsom and Speaker Emerita Pelosi, among other high ranking individuals, as he was formally placed into his new speakership role.
The speaker’s speech focused mostly on unity, which is no surprise given the lengthy battle for the California assembly speakership.
Rivas succeeds assemblymember Anthony Rendon, who held the honor of being the second-longest serving speaker behind Willie Brown.
The California Credit Union League looks forward to working with the new speaker, as well as congratulate Speaker Emeritus Rendon on his service!
