Reducing Overdraft & NSF Fee Demand Letter and Litigation Risk

The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues has provided an analysis for credit unions detailing the ongoing rise in regulatory, administrative, and legislative actions (along with a fresh wave of demand letters and class-action lawsuits) in relation to recent developments in overdraft protection and non-sufficient fund (NSF) fees practices.

Debit Interchange Toolkit, CPPA, Call Reports, and Board Recap

The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues is drafting its comment letter to the Federal Reserve Board on its Regulation II debit card interchange proposal.

League-Engaged Bills in Sacramento Drop or Move Forward

A handful of important bills kept the California Credit Union League busy in Sacramento this week, including overdraft protection and non-sufficient fund (NSF) fees, automated decision tools, small business debt, pricing algorithms, background checks, personal finance curriculum, and state charter modernization.

Personal Finance Bill Passes CA Assembly Education Committee

This week, Assembly Bill 2927 (Assemblymember Kevin McCarty) passed out of the California Assembly Education Committee on the consent calendar, which means the bill had no opposition from committee members and no registered opposition from outside organizations.

Leagues’ Analysis on NCUA’s Call Report Fee Income Changes

As previously reported, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) has implemented changes to the 5300 Call Report. These changes require credit unions with assets totaling $1 billion or more to report their fee income derived from overdraft and non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees.
